Wellness Care at West End Veterinary Office

As a general rule of thumb, you should bring your pet in to see us at least annually. Depending on your pet’s age and breed, we may recommend that they come to see us more frequently. We have designed our wellness exams to be comprehensive and personalized to your pet’s specific needs.

Routine well care typically includes:

  • Physical exam
  • Laboratory testing
  • Parasite prevention
  • Vaccinations

Cat-Friendly & Fear Free

We have been certified by the Association of Feline Practitioners as a cat-friendly veterinary office. From the moment you walk in the door, your cat will be treated with the utmost care and respect to ensure that their visit remains stress-free. Cats are given a special blanket that has been treated with natural cat pheromones to keep them calm.

We also use Fear Free techniques to keep your pets relaxed throughout their visit. We have private, quiet areas that we can bring your pet into if there isn’t an exam room immediately available. This keeps other pets from startling or scaring your pet as they come into the office. During your pet’s exam, we keep the lights low and are gentle with our voices and handling to help them feel comfortable.

Ultimately, our goal is to help your pets feel comfortable and safe at West End Veterinary Office.

What Does a Well Exam Look Like?

Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens receive a welcome kit when they arrive for their first visit at West End Veterinary Office. We conduct a full physical exam and start to design a care plan to help you plan for future visits. We also provide a comprehensive educational talk to help you understand your new pet.

Adult Pets

Adult pets typically see us once a year. We will administer vaccines and conduct routine laboratory testing in addition to their full physical exam. Our veterinary team will also authorize your pet’s parasite prevention.

Senior Pets

Senior pets are recommended to see us twice per year. We recommend this cadence so that we’re able to catch any changes to your pet’s health as they arise. Like our other well care visits, senior pets will receive a full physical exam, including laboratory testing and vaccines.

For birds, reptiles, and other exotic pets, we recommend that you bring your pet in to see us at least annually.

Importance of Vaccination for Your Pet

Consistency in your pet's vaccinations throughout their life is vital. It ensures continuous protection against diseases, maintains immunity, and contributes to their overall well-being. Regular vaccinations also fulfill a broader responsibility by promoting community health and preventing the spread of contagious illnesses.
